Ste Foy is a beautiful town, nestled on the banks of the Dordogne, at the foot of wooded hills in the northern plains that produce the wines of Bergerac and St Foy Bordeaux. Ste Foy was built as a Bastide, a walled city, by the British in the 11th century, and its remarkable architecture spans the ages of time with this right at the beginning of the 20th century. There are a number of hypermarkets, both in an out of town. The old town with its relaxing walks on the banks of the river has several excellent restaurant and a good selection of shops and banks. St Foy is well known for its Saturday market that fills the streets of the centre of town, which is officially recognized as one of the best 100 in France. To appreciate the sounds and smells of a fabulous market that seems to sell everything you can think of, spend an hour or two, you can stroll around the streets, and head for the market square for a coffee, beer or lunch and watch the world go by!
